Christian Dating Advisor proudly presents e-Lesson #18:

When people are browsing profiles, besides the photos, they are most drawn toward the headlines. That's why it's very important to make sure that you have a nice, interesting and attractive headline for your profile.

It should:

1. Grab attention

2. Be short but not too short.

3. Say something about yourself

4. Not be "cheesy" or overused (like an overused saying... ie: "I am looking for that special someone")

5. Not be a bible verse (because it doesn't say enough about you)

6. Be spelt correctly (Misspellings are distracting and they bug a lot of people, and you come across as dumb)

A great formula for writing your headline is to write it after you've created your profile body. It should summarize the most important aspects of your profiles (at least the most interesting).

We scoured the different Christian dating sites, to give you both "Good" and "Bad" examples of headlines. We have also including our comments in parentheses. So here goes...

First the Men...

What NOT to write

LOOKING FOR MY COMPANION FOR THE REST OF MY DAYS HERE ON EARTH

(too cheesy...and the use of caps seems like you're shouting.)

by grace alone

(What does this mean? What does it have to do with your dating profile? Not specific enough)

Special in many ways

(Just how "special" are you? I would recommend not using the word "special" to describe yourself.)

Christian man looking4U

(Doesn't say anything about yourself, and it's a little too cheesy)

And now, one of the worst ones we've found...

It Is Better To Be Touched By An Angel ..... Then Groped By A Stranger.

(What?? Are you trying to offend women? Women don't want to think about groping and touching while reading profiles...it's just wrong...)

What To write:

Hi I'm Scott and I'm just your average outdoor active boy who loves God and enjoys nature.

(Like how he describes himself and his interests briefly.)

Goofy, happy & successful Christian guy

(Again, short but descriptive.)

Wonderful man looking to share an awesome adventure with a wonderful woman.

(Not bad...like the mention of "adventure" but needs to be a little more specific, and not use "wonderful" so much)

Active Widower seeking Christian Lady for Companionship

(Short and descriptive)

Passionate and fun loving guy with a strong determination and a big heart!

(Good use of positive descriptive adjectives)

And now, the Women...

What NOT to write:

I AM A HOPELES RHEUMATIC . AN GOOD OLD FASHION GIRL.

(Is this a play on rheumatoid arthritis?? Or does she not know how to spell romantic?)

I am a loving woman and mom seeking the answer. The answer is the one that heaven will send.

(What does this mean??)

Looking for someone like me.

(Who are you? That sounds a bit self-centered...)

I need friends

(This sounds pretty desperate...)

to inspire and be inspired

(What?? This says nothing about you!!)

Time to start over and be happy

(This sounds like your waiting for a man to make you happy... doesn't say much for your relationship with God?)

Single Christian girl. Tired of being alone.

(...booo hoooo... how negative can you be? It's like saying "I only want to date you because I'm tiered of being alone...)

Are you the one? The one to be my friend? The one to share this great adventure called life?

(oh my cheesy....)

What to write:

I'm a very energetic gal and down to earth.

(Great specifics)

Fun-loving, red headed, Christian woman, who is family oriented and trusting God's timing. (Descriptive enough and not too cheesy)

WIDOWED CHRISTIAN HORSELADY

(short and sweet but shouldn't be all caps)

Hi, I'm a bright, fit and positive woman looking for someone who is intelligent, and hard working

(Her personality comes across here)

Always a lady. Happy, compassionate, and love the Lord.

(Unique and descriptive)

Cute single artist

(Short, sweet but still descriptive)

Hope you enjoyed this lesson as much as we enjoyed creating it. We had a few laughs!

In our next lesson we'll reveal Profile Strategy Tip #3... this is probably the most important Profile Strategy Tip in the series so be sure not to miss it.
